Aussie children wander off while mum sleeps

CANBERRA - A parent's nightmare came true for a Canberra mother when her two young children wandered from their house while she slept.

Police say the two boys, aged just three years and 18 months, were discovered in parkland near their home in suburban Latham early on Thursday.

The older boy was naked.

Officers doorknocked the area before discovering a house with an unlocked front door and children's toys in the front room.

They found the boys' mother in bed unaware that the pair had left the house.

She was distraught when she was told what had happened.

The woman was later reunited with her children at Belconnen police station.
