Failed politician Pauline Hanson - whose anti-immigration policies made her a household name in Australia - is emigrating.

The former leader of the One Nation party - who's views on immigration were often accused of being racist - says Aussie is no longer the land of opportunity.

She is selling her Queensland home and heading for the United Kingdom, Australian Woman's Day magazine reports.

"I'm going to be away indefinitely," Ms Hanson told the magazine.

"It's pretty much goodbye forever. I've really had enough. I want peace in my life. I want contentment, and that's what I'm aiming for.

"I will miss my children and close friends most of all."

"Sadly, `the land of opportunity' is no more applicable," she said.

The former fish and chip shop owner won the federal seat of Oxley in 1996 and hit headlines by criticising Australia's multicultural society during her maiden parliamentary speech.

She was originally a Liberal candidate for the Queensland seat, but was ousted by the part for her radical views on race.

She then formed the One Nation party in 1997 before losing the seat the following year.

Hanson tried, and failed, four more times to be elected to parliament.

Her last attempt was for election into the Queensland state government last year.

"I know I will never be given a chance to enter Parliament again," she told Woman's Day.
