A 3000-year-old wooden staircase has been found in northern Austria, preserved in a Bronze Age salt mine, Vienna's Natural History Museum said.
The museum's excavations director said it was used during the Bronze Age to enter the saltmine.
It was found 100m below the surface. The staircase is in perfect condition because the micro-organisms that cause wood to rot do not exist in salt mines.
