Further details emerged yesterday of allegations against a group of prison inmates charged in a major P bust when they appeared in the North Shore District Court.
Twelve people - including prisoners from the maximum-security Paremoremo Prison and the Spring Hill Corrections Facility in Waikato - face about 80 charges concerning the alleged importation from China of Contac NT, a chemical used to make P. Police say they seized enough for $5 million of P.
One of the group was granted interim name suppression.
Inmates who appeared yesterday included Ernest Tofaeono, 36, Wayne John Clarke, 27, Michael Anthony Laumanu, 41, Wanzhe Gui, 33, Fraser Samuel Milham, 34, and Ulaiasi Pulete, 40.
Two people who were not inmates also face charges: Tai Bong Rhee, 45, of Red Beach, appeared yesterday and a warrant was issued for the arrest of Matthew Vaee Schwenke, 46, of Mt Roskill, who did not appear.
There was a heavy police presence and the prisoners were specially allocated a separate courtroom.
They were remanded in custody by Judge Robert Kerr until their next appearance in October.
