The coalition believes it may have found inconsistencies in federal MP Craig Thomson's statement to Parliament, which support its proposal that he be referred to the powerful house privileges committee.
A day after Thomson rose in the House of Representatives to address allegations he misused union funds when national secretary of the Health Service Union, the coalition released an examination of the suspended Labor MP's speech.
It believes Thomson may have misled Parliament on several points, including the inference in his claim that because he was interviewed only once by Fair Work Australia (FWA) the organisation did not give him a fair hearing.
"That is patently false," said opposition workplace relations spokesman Eric Abetz yesterday.
He said the FWA investigation report on Thomson, who was elected in 2007, showed he had been sent a draft of the report, had been given an opportunity to respond and had successfully sought an extension of time in which to to do.
