The BBC says it has spoken with Nigerian President Umaru Yar'Adua by telephone, the first interview he has given since he was taken to a Saudi Arabian hospital weeks ago. The BBC quoted Yar'Adua, 58, as saying he hoped to return to Nigeria to resume power. He did not formally appoint his Vice-President to serve in his absence, leading to fears of a constitutional crisis.
