Aftershocks are continuing to rumble through Canterbury following the region's 7.1-magnitude quake on September 4.
A quake measuring 4.0, centred 20km south of Darfield at a depth of 7km, shook the region at 7.44am today.
Six aftershocks, ranging from magnitude 2.3 to magnitude 3.6, were reported yesterday.
