Accused torturer shot dead by Brazilian police

A man accused of torturing and killing five Brazilians of Japanese descent was killed in a shantytown gunfight with police.

Celso dos Santos, 33, was shot at least five times by police after he fired on them in Sao Paulo.

He was wanted for the deaths of five members of the Yonekura family, tortured to reveal the whereabouts of US$5000 ($7237) in savings.
