A farmer in Nebraska saved his own life by cutting off his leg with a pen knife as he was being sucked into a piece of machinery.
Kurt Kaser, 63, was transferring corn from one bin to another when his left foot got stuck in the equipment
As his leg was being pulled in and mangled he took his 7.5cm pen knife out and sawed off the limb below the knee.
After freeing himself he crawled 60m to the nearest telephone and was flown to a hospital.
Kaser, a corn, soybean and pig farmer, said he never lost consciousness during his ordeal, which happened on April 19.
