KEY POINTS:
A gang of would-be robbers planned to get rich by blowing up Sydney ATMs or safes using up to 40kg of explosive made from legal chemicals, police say.
Police foiled the plot when they arrested five men in raids on four homes across the city's south-western suburbs yesterday morning, NSW police said.
Four of the men were charged with conspiring to possess an explosive device with intent to damage property. A fifth man was still being questioned yesterday.
