An estimated 80,000 people in west Africa are preparing to migrate illegally to Europe and that the situation will get worse, French Euro MP Patrick Gaubert has said.
He said most were waiting in Mauritania, Senegal and the Canary Islands.
EU countries that take migrants from emergency camps - mainly Italy, Malta, France, Greece and Poland - say other EU countries must help foot the bill.
