6.2 magnitude quake hits Solomon Islands

A 6.2 magnitude earthquake has struck off the Solomon Island, the United States Geological Survey reports.

The quake struck at 9.05am (local and New Zealand time) at a depth of 54km, 27km northeast of Kira Kira.

No tsunami warning has been issued at this stage.
