KEY POINTS:
An earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale shook Waikanae Beach, 65km northeast of Wellington, today.
The quake struck at 2.37pm and was centred 30km southeast of Turangi at a depth of 90km.
GNS Science said the quake would have been felt on Waikanae Beach.
