Chinese archaeologists have unearthed a vat of 2,400 year-old soup in its original bronze cooking pot, according to The Discovery Network.
Further tests are being conducted to determine the ingredients found in the cooking vessel, which had turned green from oxidation, but the broth is suspected to have been bone soup.
The site, near Xian's famous terracotta warriors, was being cleared to make way for an expansion of the city's airport.
A container holding an odourless liquid believed to be wine was also found on the site.
"It's the first discovery of bone soup in Chinese archaeological history," Liu Daiyun of the Shaanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology told the Global Times.
"The discovery will play an important role in studying the eating habits and culture of the Warring States Period (475-221BC)."
