BAGHDAD (AP) Authorities in Iraq say two separate shootings have killed four people, including a former provincial election candidate, in the country's north.
Police officials say gunmen shot and killed the former candidate Abla Ahmed along with her son Wednesday night in a drive-by-shooting as she was driving home in the city of Mosul.
Also in Mosul, gunmen ambushed the convoy of the city's mayor, Hussein Ali, at a road intersection, killing two bodyguards and wounding four others. The mayor was unhurt in the attack, said police officials.
The former insurgent stronghold of Mosul is located about 360 kilometers (225 miles) northwest of Baghdad.
Medical officials confirmed the casualty figures for both attacks. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to publicly release the information.
