Nearly £500,000 ($1.3 million) has been spent to save British MPs from rain on a 40m walk in the House of Commons.
A steel and glass cover has been built from Star Chamber Court's cafeteria to New Palace Yard.
Lib Dem MP Norman Baker said: "You could give every MP a gold-plated umbrella and still be quids in. How can anyone think this is value for money?"
Ministers also spent £450,000 last year on pot plants for Whitehall.
