LILLE - Authorities took 130 dogs from an apartment in northern France following complaints by neighbours, an animal rights association says.
"It was a real slum inside, just imagine 130 dogs who never went out. They had to be cleared out urgently and that's what happened this morning," said a member of LISA, an animal rights association that took charge of some of the dogs.
The animals were kept by an elderly woman and her daughter. They were well-fed and had not been badly treated.
Neighbours had repeatedly complained to local veterinary authorities in the northeastern town of Sedan.
