KEY POINTS:
BERLIN - A tour bus crashed on a highway near the eastern German city of Magdeburg today, killing 13 elderly passengers and injuring 31 people, police said.
The bus was carrying a group of senior citizens to Dresden and had about 48 people, all adults, aboard. Police said some of the injuries were serious. The bus driver survived the accident.
According to first reports, police said a lorry hit the bus from behind as it slowed due to an accident on the other side of the road. The out-of-control bus then veered down a nearby slope and overturned.
