Today, A trough of low pressure affecting the northern parts of the North Island moves away, while a second trough approaches the east coast of the North Island. Otherwise New Zealand is dominated by a ridge. Tomorrow, northerly flow develops over the South Island ahead of a series of fronts On Thursday, frontal rain-bands move north over southern and central New Zealand, followed by showery westerlies. On Friday, the fronts clear the upper North Island and showery southwesterlies cover the country, easing later. On Saturday, a weak ridge of high pressure moves onto New Zealand, while a trough affects the south of the South Island later.
