Situation:
A ridge of high pressure covers most of New Zealand today and tomorrow, but troughs embedded in the easterly flow are expected to bring showers to the northern half of the North Island. Meanwhile, a northerly flow strengthens in the far south. On Tuesday, a ridge of high pressure remains over much of the country, while a low passes just north of New Zealand. A strong northwesterly flow is expected to develop over the South Island on Wednesday as a front approaches from the Tasman Sea. On Thursday, the front moves east across the rest of the country.
