A low pressure system lying to the west of New Zealand extends a series of fronts and troughs over the country today before moving onto central New Zealand tomorrow. On Saturday a cold southwesterly flow develops as the low moves away to the east. On Sunday a narrow ridge moves across the country, followed by an unsettled west to southwest flow.

For Lake Taupo: Today: Northerly 20 knots, rising to 25 knots gusting 35 knots this afternoon. Waves 1 metre. Poor visibility in showers, more frequent this evening.

For Lake Taupo: Friday: Northerly 25 knots gusting 35 knots, rising to 30 knots gusting 40 knots in the morning. Easing to northerly 20 knots in the afternoon, and to 15 knots in the evening. Waves rising to 1.5 metres for a time. Showers, then poor visibility in rain from afternoon, possibly heavy. Saturday: Northwest 15 knots. Showers, turning to low cloud and drizzle. Sunday: Westerly 10 knots. A few showers. Monday: Variable 5 knots, becoming southwest 15 knots early. Partly cloudy.
