Pride of NZ Awards: Todd Hamilton


Todd Hamilton has worked tirelessly to eradicate pests in the Whangarei Heads area over the past 15 years, to specifically recover local kiwi populations. Todd is an ex science teacher who after leaving teaching began working for the Landcare Trust to re-establish kiwi through recovery programmes. Along with dedicated team members, and community volunteers he has brought kiwi back to existence in the area. Where there were only 90 known existing kiwi in the area there are now over 500. It is one of the most successful kiwi regeneration programmes in the country.
