Thousands of people lined Ponsonby Road tonight for the third and largest Auckland Pride Parade. The parade is seen as the high point of the Auckland Pride Festival and was the first year police staff were given permission to march in uniform. This year's parade theme was Gods & Monsters and featured 58 floats led by the Dykes on Bikes.

A right-to-die advocacy group has issued new video footage of Brittany Maynard to mark what would have been her 30th birthday, three weeks after her death. In the video, recorded in August, Maynard calls on more states to enact legislation allowing terminally ill people to end life on their own terms. Maynard, terminally ill with brain cancer, grabbed the national spotlight for about a month after publicising that she and her husband moved to Portland so she could use Oregon's law to end her life on her own terms. The piece called Poly Nation won the South Pacific category and the overall competition, taking Hawkes Bay designer Kate MacKenzie nine months to craft.
