NZ Dance Company: Introducing Rotunda

The New Zealand Dance Company's first full-length work is now in rehearsals. This webisode showcases the work in progress with a brief introduction from Artistic Director Shona McCullagh. A unique production, Rotunda features the powerful collision of a live brass band with the raw beauty of contemporary dance. Created by the company's Artistic Director, Shona McCullagh in collaboration with the NZDC dancers, musician Chris O'Connor and celebrated singer, songwriter and composer Don McGlashan as Musical Director, Rotunda brings to life the world of the band rotunda as an iconic symbol of New Zealand community. Giselle tells the story of two star-crossed lovers; Giselle, a delicate village beauty and a prince, disguised as a commoner, who woos her away from her devoted suitor.

Giselle was filmed in October and November 2012, in the lead up to the ballet's seven-centre New Zealand tour and three-week tour of China. Featuring a score by the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra, the film departs occasionally from the stage setting and places the lovers within a real-world frame in New York & Shanghai

C-City Brothers: Story 'behind the song'

While Andy Ellis wrote the words, strongly inspired by the strength of the people of Canterbury after the earthquakes and the closeness of the Crusaders as a team, the other band members came up with the rap. Acclaimed musician Jason Kerrison collaborated with the band and wrote original music for the song. “It would be incredible if our song made it to number one on the charts, the boys would be stoked,” says Andy. “A lot of people have helped the band and we want to thank them for the time they have given up. We really want this single to be a success and raise a lot of money for the Cystic Fibrosis Association.”

New X Men teaser trailer released

Fox have released a trailer for the upcoming and much anticipated Marvel film "X-Men: Days of Future Past" which will hit the cinemas next May. The video plays as an company advertisement for Trask Industries, who build the Sentinels in the new X-Men movie, based on the popular cartoon. "Join Trask Industries as we celebrate 50 years of the Sentinel program and look forward to an even brighter future" says the ad. In the film the X-Men send Wolverine to the past to change a major historical event that could globally impact man and mutant kind.

VIDEO PREMIERE: Carnivorous Plant Society, Misty Magic Land

The five-piece band - whose music has been described as "cinematic jazz", has a wide variety of influences from Mariachi music to the stories of Stephen King.

Misty Magic Land is a musical adventure story, visualised as a comic about a man's journey through another universe. His journey starts as a mere stroll down the road. But, after touching a magic star, our comic hero is teleported to a world of fantasy and horror where anything is possible.

The Carnivorous Plant's self-titled album is due to be released on the 16th November at Auckland's Wammy Bar. It is also rumoured that more fearfully imaginative videos will follow.
