I've always regretted not getting off the plane in Zanzibar. I'd spent a fantastic week cycling in northern Tanzania with Intrepid Travel, and was scheduled to finish my stay in the country with a night in Dar es Salaam, the town that fun forgot.
Our flight to that dusty, dreary city had touched down briefly in sun-kissed Zanzibar, where some passengers transited. The island looked gorgeous; the low-rise city fun and bustling.
From my plane window, I could see an outdoor concert with the crowd dancing in the sun.
The birthplace of Freddie Mercury looked a fun and vibrant spot to spend one last night in Tanzania. Sadly, this former member of the Queen Fan Club had booked into Dar es Salaam.
