We Kiwis have tended to think of ourselves as adventurous types, but a survey by Qantas suggests we've become a bit more aspirational in our vacation outlook.
The Qantas survey - carried out on Facebook - found 43 per cent of Kiwi respondents regarded themselves as "Pampered Travellers" - meaning someone who goes places in style. They had four types to choose from: Planners were second most popular at 39 per cent, followed by Adventurers (14 per cent) and Business Highflyers (4 per cent).
A spot of pampering is one of the delights of travel - after all, we spend so much of our real lives not being pampered. The act of being pampered underlines the fact that you're far away from your daily grind. But it's great to get a little sweat on your brow before heading away for your spa treatment.
I'd place myself somewhere between the Adventurers and the Pampered Travellers. I like a good bike ride or nice long walk before tucking into local food and drink.
As for the Planners? I've always been pretty loose on that front when travelling along in the past - it all works out in the end, right? But, as my travels these days now often involve going places with my kids, I'll have to shift gears and join the Planners. This week, I'm off to Disneyland with my daughter. Planning priority: a stiff drink in the evening.
