The kids were disappointed.
They were stoked when we first told them the family would be flying to Rarotonga, but alarm set in when they realised they wouldn't be able to go trick-or-treating around their own neighbourhood.
"Do they have Halloween in Rarotonga?" my daughter asked. "Don't worry sweetheart," I told her. "I'm sure Halloween is pretty much everywhere these days ... "
We soothed them with guarantees of trick-or-treating in the tropics. We might even let them trick-or-treat on the plane. And, as they'll be on holiday, they can gobble all the lollies they want.
