It seems like there's a news story every other day about tourism taxes, regional fuel taxes or rising fuel prices. Pity the poor visitor to our shores who is about to bear the brunt.
Around Auckland, only a handful of service stations charge $2.20 or more for a litre of fuel.
The most expensive are the two Z stations near Auckland Airport — an eyewatering $2.29 a litre. That's tough enough for Aucklanders to deal with, but spare a thought for hapless tourists, dropping off their rental cars at the airport. They're making up a disproportionate number of petrol-buyers paying the highest price. Just one more way we're milking the tourism cow.
(If you're filling up a rental before airport drop-off, try the Gull Wiri station, not too far away, or check the Gaspy app.)
