Drive through the Hokianga village of Waimamaku on Saturday and you may be confronted by sheriffs, cowboys on horseback and people in pioneer costumes.
It's the Waimamaku Wild West Fest, a day and evening of typical wild-west antics, including cowboys holding up the local brewery and store and scattering loot among the crowd.
Bush bands entertain, creative crafts from local artisans are on sale and Hokianga fare will tickle your tastebuds. Unique events include keg throwing and a possum shy. An evening hoedown promises to be a foot-stomping affair.
