During June and July, wild food moves from its traditional home on the West Coast to city restaurants throughout the country.
The Monteith's Wild Food Challenge starts in Auckland on Thursday, with chefs in participating restaurants creating unique fare using New Zealand's finest wild food.
Expect the weird and wonderful - but don't worry, you won't be eating any endangered species.
Wild food is essentially non-farmed produce that is reared and processed under health and safety regulations.
The challenge includes matching food with Monteith's beer from a choice of five brews.
