Holidays can teach us many things — about a destination, about other people and about ourselves.
I could revert to a cliche and say that travel has made me appreciate home more, however I have always loved New Zealand as a place to visit and travel around. Overseas travel has more been an education in understanding others and realising that there is beauty all around the world. To travel is to look back and understand, to discover things and see that different isn't wrong, it is just different.
To choose my favourite place would be hard. I have been lucky enough to travel to many places and yet still have only scratched the surface. The kid in me still loves Disneyland and always will. It gives you a break from the real world for a few days and we can all do with that from time to time.
My advice is to go somewhere you would not normally go if you get the chance. Two of the best trips I have had were places I thought I would never visit. One was to Aspen in Colorado, to see two of my mates who were on a skiing/working holiday there. I don't even ski, however it was an amazing time in a place and a style of holiday I may never do again. It holds so many fantastic memories. I will never forget the "open face turkey melt" at a restaurant called Boogies.
