Whale Rider bike ride

Ohope-based Pacific Adventures offers cycle tours around the East Cape through Whale Rider country.

Two- or three-day tours start at Opotiki and pass pohutukawa-clad coastlines, sparkling bays and historic settlements before ending at the East Cape lighthouse. Longer tours continue to Gisborne.

Fitness is not a major requirement as the bikes are excellent, a support wagon is provided and the pace is leisurely. Expect to cover between 50km and 70km a day, and enjoy comfortable bed and breakfast accommodation at the end of the day.
