Fremantle is known for its eclectic, multicultural charm. A 20-minute drive from Perth's CBD, an easy train or bus ride or boat cruise down the Swan River, Freo's rich history is supported by a strong creative streak and a diverse wining-dining scene.
A visit to one of the 19 beautiful metropolitan beaches is a must. Try your hand at surfing at Scarborough Beach; grab fish'n chips and watch the sun go down over the Indian Ocean at Cottesloe Beach. Snorkelling and rock pools are on offer further north, around Mettam's Pool.
Right now there's a real buzz of excitement around Perth, with new bars, restaurants, shopping, cultural spaces and major projects changing the face of the city. Many are calling it Australia's new "hot" city. Recent openings include the Print Hall, Trustee Bar and Bistro, The Heritage and Bar Lafayette - all first-class venues in the extensive Brookfield Place precinct - an area that has become a bustling hub in the city, following the transformation of some of Perth's most valued heritage buildings.
Other new kids in the CBD include Jamie's Italian, The Aviary, Butterworth Bar & Kitchen, Sentinel Bar & Grill, Wolf Lane, The Cheeky Sparrow, Venn, The Conservatory, Lamont's, Bishop's House, Lalla Rookh and The Lost Society.
The transformation extends into inner-city suburbs such as Northbridge, Mt Lawley, Leederville and Subiaco.
