One of the best annual mountain-biking events in New Zealand is on next Sunday in Taupo. The Craters Classic, which begins and ends at Wairakei Resort, is a XC single-track ride on some of the Craters MTB Park's 80kms of mud-free pumice-based tracks. There are three course lengths to choose from — Short & Sweet (15km), In the Middle (30km) and Long & Hard (45km) — and separate age categories for each. Channel your inner petrolhead on Queen's Birthday Monday at the annual Parked Up Out West car show. The free event, hosted by North West Shopping Centre and Renegade Rod & Custom, sees local hot rod and classic car owners vie for titles such as Best Chev and Best Street Machine, while the young ones enjoy free facepainting and balloons. There's also a prize for the Best Dressed, and other spot prizes for lucky patrons. Gold coin donations for the Colwill School Massey Community Hub will be appreciated on the day. Radio Hauraki hits the road next week for New Zealand's first brewery tour, which hits seven main centres over 10 days beginning in Nelson's McCashin's Brewery on Wednesday, June 6, and winds up in Dunedin's New New New Corporation on Friday, June 15. The free event hits The Rising Tide at the Mount next Friday and Good George Dining Hall in Hamilton on Saturday, two great spots to enjoy a few beers and listen to Shihad's Jon Toogood spinning some tunes, and Bhuja broadcasting their Drive show.
