Walk through history

The Karangahake Gorge Historical Walkway, on SH2 between Paeroa and Waihi, winds along the bank of the pretty Ohinemuri River, with part of it following the old railway line, crossing three bridges and leading through an 1100m tunnel.

The 7km walk takes two hours one-way, and connects sites associated with the area's gold-mining history.

There's also a 2km loop walk, which takes about 45 minutes.
