If you're down Waikato way this weekend, watch out for mud-splattered Beast Duathlon contestants. Entries have closed, but watch the action and see if you dare to enter next year.
The Sunday event starts in Katikati at 11am with a 20km run over Thompson's Track to the Te Aroha side. This is a 4WD track with numerous mud holes to run, crawl or slide through so when competitors finish this section they are covered in the brown stuff. Next is a 66km cycle leg into Hamilton.
Porritt Stadium is a great lookout point to watch competitors coming into the run transition from the bike leg, before completing the final leg - a 3km run around the stadium.
