Waimangu Volcanic Valley near Rotorua was born from the fury of the Tarawera eruption in 1886. As well as being a fascinating geothermal attraction, the valley is also a wildlife refuge where birds are protected. From October, visitors can take advantage of a project that provides accessways, birdwatching hides and interpretation guides.
