Legend says the Tui Brewery at Mangatainoka was established in 1889 when entrepreneur Henry Wagstaff stopped for a non-alcoholic brew at the nearby stream. On finding that the water made the best cup of tea he'd tasted, he decided to build a brewery on the site.
Modern-day travellers can stop at the font and tour the brewery Monday to Friday, at 10.30am and 1pm. Bookings are essential. A shop sells promotional gear, and catering is available for large groups. The brewery is on SH2 south of Woodville.
