Visit gardens of the north

Defy the autumn chill and head for the so-called "winterless North" in the company of two-dozen like-minded garden-lovers.

The "Rediscover Northland - Sub-tropical Gardens and Other Highlights Tour" might be a mouthful to say, but the six-day itinerary is as full as its name suggests.

Eight gardens are on the list, along with numerous historic sites and points of interest.

Leaving from Auckland on April 6, stops along the way to the Bay of Islands include Matakana, Matakohe, Dargaville and Omapere, the Hokianga Harbour and Mangonui.

The cost is $997 a person, twin share or an extra $322 for those who prefer single accommodation. Breakfasts are included, as are some other meals, and all sightseeing and entrance fees.
