Holidaying in cabins once built for power-station workers might not sound too tempting.
But an old power scheme village in Victoria's high country has been transformed into a year-round retreat surrounded by gum trees, magnificent gardens and mountain ranges.
Bogong Village is halfway between Falls Creek and Mt Beauty and has Mt Bogong, Victoria's highest peak, as its backdrop.
The cabins, once home to state electricity workers who built and ran the Keiwa River power scheme, are now heated and kitted out with all mod cons.
The village is the perfect base for trout fishing at Lake Guy or the Keiwa River. The local restaurant, Bogong Jack's, will cook your catch, and offers a choice of locally produced wines.
