UNICEF has launched "Turning the Wheels of Progress" a unique adventure holiday promotion to raise money and awareness for the work UNICEF supports in Vietnam and developing countries around the world.
"Turning the Wheels of Progress" challenges people to get fit and to raise $1,000 for UNICEF in order to be eligible to participate in a discounted cycling holiday in Vietnam.
Participants get to see first-hand how UNICEF uses the money to help make a difference to the people in developing countries.
Riding a mountain bike along the highways and byways of Vietnam is without doubt the best way to experience this rich and varied destination.
Traveling from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh at a slower pace than most coach tours, cyclists are able to better absorb the long and complex history of the country as well as enjoy the beautiful scenery of the coast, plains and highlands.
For cyclists that get tired there's a backup vehicle to adjourn to to rest your weary legs.
"UNICEF in New Zealand is proud of the support it has given to UNICEF Vietnam projects - such as 7 boats that are floating clinics to get to remote areas in the Mekong Delta - and the long term progress this means for the Vietnamese peopl," said Dennis McKinlay, National Manager, New Zealand.
"We think New Zealanders will find both the country and the aid development projects fascinating."
The project is sponsored by World Expeditions, Singapore Airlines and Bivouac. Participants pay $3590 (after $1000 has been raised for UNICEF) which covers return flights ex Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch to Vietnam, bikes, accommodation, meals, transport and all entrance fares. There are four departures during September and October 2002.
