News that the Nepalese government and Maoist guerrillas have announced a truce is good news for travellers, says the director of Adventure Travel Company Peter Gibbs.
Nepal's new prime minister, Sher Bahadur Deuba, and the Communist Party of Nepal's chief, Prachanda, announced a truce and have vowed to hold talks aimed at ending the five-year rebellion.
Mr Gibbs said that after recent unrest in the Himalayan nation it was great to hear that things had settled down.
He said it was of particular importance as the main trekking season opens in just over a month's time.
The major trekking companies, Peregrine & World Expeditions, have released statements saying they expect all of their treks in Nepal to operate normally.
However, the companies said people should not trek on their own in remote areas.
The main trekking season in Nepal runs from October through to May.
