The coals will be stoked and the steam rising when Ashburton celebrates the recommissioning of one of its oldest treasures this weekend - a K88 "Washington" steam train.
K88 will give rides on Saturday and Sunday at the Plains Railway and Museum at Ashburton's Tinwald Domain to thank the community that helped to raise the funds to restore it.
There will also be stalls and static displays. Train rides are $2 and children under 12 are free.
