Air New Zealand’s most popular movies and television shows watched during flights

Air New Zealand has released a ranking of the most-watched movies and TV shows on its inflight entertainment for 2024.

The most popular film was The Beekeeper, a violent revenge thriller starring British actor Jason Statham, which was viewed 128,607 times during Air NZ flights.

In second place was the much lighter, fluffier film Anyone But You, a romantic comedy starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, which had 104,813 views.

However, this rom-com, alongside the 2024 remake of Mean Girls, were outliers; the remaining 10 most-watched films were fast-paced, action-filled films such as Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and The Fall Guy.

In 2023, the top film was A Man Called Otto, with 176,000 views, followed by John Wick: Chapter 4, which clocked 149,000 views.

Younger travellers maintained a love of Bluey, which is the most-watched TV show for two years running, with Peppa Pig in second. Iconic sitcoms such as The Big Bang Theory and Friends also maintained their popularity with travellers.

Air New Zealand general manager customer experience Kylie McGillivray-Brown said the airline intentionally provided a selection of genres for travellers to watch during flights.

“Whether it’s diving into a blockbuster thriller, laughing along with a sitcom, or keeping the little ones entertained with their favourite shows, our selection ensures there’s something for everyone,” she said.

“Air New Zealand’s inflight entertainment proves the best journeys come with a side of screen time.”
