Patricia Greig is currently cruising from Barcelona to London on the Viking Sea's christening cruise. She will be posting updates throughout the trip.
Day 6: "In Porto, everything is up a hill or down a hill," said our tour guide, and I couldn't have put it better myself. Porto, Portugal's second largest city, was a breath of fresh air after Lisbon's cram, and its baroque architecture, granite and tile covered buildings made it a candy land for the eyes.
Porto was prosperous when wine shipments made passage along the Douro River. Grand houses line the lanes of the Old Town and it's a fantastic place to shop, admire the Romanesque cathedral or find time for a cheeky glass of local wine.
I think now would be a good time to let readers know that the average age of my fellow cruisers is 65+. Because I am much younger, people have been asking me which of the ship's shows I'm in, mistaking me for an entertainer. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to do an Irish jig for a crowd on the best of days, but maybe not around the pool.
