Tokyo, Japan is as fantastic as you'd imagine. It seems to have something for absolutely everyone. We visited in October, Japan's autumn and although the colours were beautiful, it rained every day. I mention this because we still had the best time. We were out all day, every day taking in everything the city has to offer. Tokyo is set up for rain with its sprawling underground metro and high rises filled with surprises (art galleries next to world-class shopping and dining). We petted hedgehogs, watched a robot battle, went second-hand shopping in Harajuku and wandered through ancient parklands. The people-watching is incredible and the people themselves are beyond welcoming. I don't think it's humanly possible to get bored in Tokyo. If you go, look up a Yakiniku restaurant and go there immediately.

We scored some cheap flights to French Polynesia on Grabaseat years ago
so went on a whim. The flights were cheap but we quickly learned that everything else was not. Aiming for something more affordable, we skipped Bora Bora and went straight to Moorea and Tahiti. Moorea was gorgeous — I have fond memories of kayaking out to a motu (small island) and having the best tuna steaks of my life. Tahiti was the opposite.
We stayed at a place in Pueu Village. The website made it look like a quaint oceanside paradise. The reality was bug-filled huts with fluorescent lighting, fishing nets in the dried-up swimming pool, a disgruntled owner and no sign of any cleaning whatsoever.
