Travel hits and misses: Noah Cappe

A few months ago, my wife Keri and I took a trip that has been on my to-do list forever: New Zealand. It was the trip of a lifetime. An unbelievable, epic experience. From the people to the food to the landscape, it was just unreal.

An experience in particular that stood out was the Waitomo Glowworm Caves.

All over the ceiling are these glowworms with this fluorescent glow-in-the-dark body that just hangs off the ceiling to attract other bugs to fly into their web. It's like floating underneath one of those nights where there are more stars in the sky than you could ever see, except the difference is, it feels like you could reach up and pull one of the stars right out of the sky.

MISS

A few years ago Keri and I did a safari through Africa. One night we were camping out in the Serengeti - no fences, no barricades . . . a tent out in the middle of the Serengeti. I woke up in the middle of the night in the sleeping bag inside this tent, and my stomach was doing somersaults. I was in rough shape.

So after thinking about my options, I headed out into the Serengeti in the dead of night with a flashlight, an upset stomach and fear. I found a private place, I got into position, and with a flashlight zipping around through the darkness, just praying that I didn't see a pair of glowing eyes looking back at me, I did what I had to do. I'm not going to lie, I kind of ran back to the tent like a kid in a horror movie, jumped back into the sleeping bag, and fell asleep. And here I am, I lived to tell the tale.
