My wife and I travelled to Thailand for three weeks. We had a couple of places booked but nothing else. One was on Koh Phangan called Man Pen Rai. This was an amazing place where our seaside room had been built into the rock. It was a great place to begin our stay. With not much else booked we went where the sun was. The rest of the three weeks began with a five-day jungle trek just out of Chiang Mai. It was quite a challenge and I must admit the Thai jungle is not as beautiful as home; we are spoilt here. From there it was lots of beach, sea time and possibly the most massages I have ever had in a day. I am quite an organisation geek and like to have all my ducks in a row when travelling. This was a great experience for living in the moment and going somewhere on a whim. We mixed up our accommodation between very low budget for a few nights and then splashing out on a night here and there to experience some luxury. I had an amazing birthday surprise from my wife on Ko Phi Phi - a day full of boating, snorkelling and lunch on a private beach. The people in Thailand were amazing and so was the food. I can't wait to return.

A bach we rented just out of Rotorua. It looked amazing in the pictures (they all do). When we got there it was a converted garage off the main house that was very cold and connected to the house. The owner was very nice though and we shared a glass of wine with her before heading into town for dinner. When we returned the night was full of sounds. Native birds, the wind and the sound of quite vigorous love-making from the owner and a lovely young man she had met that night. We were going to stay two nights but in the morning we left our money on the bed for the first night and legged it to a hotel.
