My hair isn't top priority when travelling but there have been a few occasions when I've wished for a bit more styling help than the weak hotel hairdryer.
Mycurl is a new product developed by Aussie hair stylist Dario Cotroneo, and it's aimed at taking the tedium out of curling hair. Because it comes in a compact, lightweight cloth bag it can slip easily into your luggage. The only catch is it requires that you also pack your hair-straighteners - not the world's tiniest styling companions - and if you're accomplished at using them as curling irons, Mycurl won't add anything to your beauty routine.
If, however, you're unco-ordinated and lazy like me, Mycurl is a decent alternative, producing a relaxed, messy kind of curl. The best part is because there are only six curling rods, it only takes about half an hour to achieve your desired look.
I tried Mycurl three times with average results each time. Because there are only six curlers, they need to be rolled quite tightly, as far up the head as possible to avoid the hair jutting out at the bottom like a frilly A-line dress.
The result was certainly an improvement on my dull, straight hair, and it got better the more I practised. But it only took a couple of hours before the curls dropped out. Long enough for a night out in a strange city, but only just.
