An expanded, updated and improved new edition of the book which won deserved acclaim - and an award - when it was first published 11 years ago.
Seen as a companion to Craig Potton's Classic Walks, which covers many of the country's best-known developed tracks, it uses the very Kiwi term "tramping" to denote 14 of the finest rougher, tougher back-country routes.
The book is well written, with interesting topographical maps from Geographx and - as you'd expect from anything to do with Potton - superb photographs.
It's not intended as a guide book, more an inspiration to get out there and enjoy our glorious wilderness areas, but it does have all the information you'd need to plan a tramp in places like the Tararuas, the Ruahines, the Southern Alps or Fiordland.
