Tramping internet style

Trampers will have the chance to explore some of New Zealand's best scenery when South Island trail details go on the internet in time for spring or early summer.

It's the brainchild of 63-year-old retired Oamaru electrician John Diver and and is based on similar trails in Australia and the United States.

With help from other experienced trampers he has mapped out a 600km start in Abel Tasman National Park and another 600km stretch ending at Stirling Point in Bluff and is working on the 450km stretch between Arthur's Pass and Lake Wanaka.

The very comprehensive internet notes will include historic, geographic and scenic places and drop-off food supplies.
